Tom barnet

Tom began learning the baritone when he was six years old, but soon changed to the euphonium, achieving grade 8 aged fourteen, whilst studying at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music with Mark Bousie. At the end of his first year at Junior RNCM he changed to tuba where he continued his studies for the next 2 years under Les Neish. When he was sixteen he had his first 2 courses with National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain as second E flat tuba and won the Katie Ogdon Solo prize of the tuba section putting him through to the Harry Mortimer Solo prize. In his second and final year he became Principal E flat tuba.

When he was twelve he started as principal euphonium in the reserve band of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland, moving up the senior band from the second year onwards.

Tom studied for his A Levels at Chethams School of Music in Manchester, learning the tuba under Brian Kingsley. Towards the end of his first year at Chethams he got his grade 8 on tuba. Once Tom had left Chethams he started studying at the Royal Northern College of Music where he now studies for a musical performance degree.
